In the evening, it is advisable to have a short devotional period before supper, when you place yourself before Jesus Christ, crucified. Rekindle the thoughts from your morning meditation and let your soul breathe forth acts of love, humility and contrition. Present your petitions with all confidence.
The examination of conscience should be made before you go to bed. It should contain four points:
1. Thank God for having kept you throughout this day.
2. Examine your conduct as you look back at the whole day. Reflect, for instance, on where, with whom and in what works you have been engaged.
3. If you see that you have done some good, thank God for it. If you have done anything wrong, in thought, word or deed, ask pardon from the Divine Majesty with a resolution to confess at the first opportunity. You must also make careful amendment for anything wrong.
4. Finally, recommend yourself, body and soul, to God's providence, along with the Church, the nation, your relatives and friends. Ask Mary and the angels and saints to watch over you and for you. Then with God's blessing take the rest he has decreed as necessary.
